The Carnac alignments
At Carnac, almost three thousand menhirs stand in parallel lines over four kilometres, chiefly in the Le Ménec, Kermario and Kerlescan alignments. You walk or cycle alongside the official paths laid out by the Maison des Mégalithes. In winter, free access opens the fields: the silhouette of a couple among the standing stones at sunset has something hypnotic about it.
Locmariaquer and Gavrinis
A few kilometres away, Locmariaquer watches over three major pieces: the Table des Marchands, a roofless dolmen covered in engravings, the Great broken menhir, once twenty metres tall, and the Er-Grah tumulus. Inside the gulf, the Gavrinis cairn, reached by boat from Larmor-Baden, holds the finest megalithic engravings in Europe. A sea outing followed by coffee facing the little sea promises a timeless morning.
Carnac-Plage and summer markets
Carnac is not just an open-air museum: the Grande Plage, the harbour of La Trinité-sur-Mer and the Thursday morning market, lively all year, extend the day. You taste kouign-amann, palets bretons biscuits and a bowl of farmhouse cider. On Lyad, people from the Morbihan share their favourite little lanes; it is up to you to find someone to lose yourself with among the standing stones.
